Cartoons every month...?

Hey Newgrounders,

So I've sort of set a goal for myself, to release one cartoon every month; I just wanted to get the general Newgrounds user's opinion on this. Is this too little, should I try to do one every two weeks, is it too many, will it be too much work and I wont be able to keep up? Now, these cartoons will probably consist mostly of additions to the Jimtopia series, but when I finish one of my longer cartoons that one will end up being the monthly one. Thanks for reading, and leave your thoughts on the subject below.

monthly cartoons seems pretty good,1 flash every 2 weeks no,but monthly yes.Just don't get carried away.

I vote yes on monthly cartoons. I think a month gives you a pretty good time to animate and write a good animation, but if it was every two weeks might be difficult to start pre-production and animate in those two weeks.

I think I'm gonna go ahead and do monthly cartoons. People really seem to like the idea.

I might just try that out :D I have been omn a busy road with collge and stuff, so one cartoon a month would be a great idea :D

It all really depends how much effort you want the audience to see in them......ie,you wouldnt release every month if you knew you could do it in a couple of days..........

Then again 12 animations a year does seem rewarding skill wise

To be honest I can make a pretty good cartoon in about 3-4 days, but if I try and do it over and over again, I run out of ideas pretty quickly.

My friend told me the EXACT same idea. Seriously.
I was also thinking of making one flash a month starting 2009

Seems a lot of NG users are on the same brainwave. I'm planning a monthly series in 2009 as well. Looking forward to it.

It's a hard balance because at one point you'll improve much more when trying to make the higest quality, but with routine you'd make similar quality things, maybe not improve so much.

Regular is good at the beggining because people start to notice you, but then working on higher quality gets people who REALLY love your movies. I guess Eddsworld would be a decent recent example of that.

I think I get what you're saying, and honestly I believe that if you make lots of smaller movies you get better, because when you focus on one big one, you only improve in the areas that that movie requires you to improve in, wereas with tons of little ones, you improve on lots of things, because each movie may call for you to practice in something different. I hope that makes sense.

i don't know... even once per month might be pushing it. let's see how you start off with the first couple months and if your still producing quality work then you may continue. if not you should probably take it back to maybe 6 weeks or 2 months

It's a good exercise for you to release stuff with a deadline... it gets you more focussed and you feel accomplished when you meet or exceed it.

On the other hand your work might suffer in quality if you force yourself to have something out so quickly.

It's up to you, what are your priorities? What is more important? There are several animators who don't release things very frequently but are still relevant when they do.

Very true, I honestly think I'm capable of releasing one cartoon a month, and I've always preferred it when artists make quantity, that's one reason why I was such a huge fan of your compliations.

I'd suggest just doing 'em at your leisure, because I know how quickly you can get done those shorts of yours :P
